Major Blakely, son of James Louis and Violet Blakeley, was a graduate of the University of Arkansas (1952). He died in Quang Tin, South Vietnam, while trying to land his F-104, which had been damaged by hostile action, at the Chu Lai Airfield. He served in the 13th Air Force and was posthumously promoted to Major and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Purple Heart. Also the recipient of the Air Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon.
He left a wife and three children. His name is located on Panel 2E, Row 42 of the Vietnam Memorial

Roy was married to Johnnye Ashton on June 14, 1953 in Rotan, Texas.
They had 3 children. Larry, Karen and Shannon
