Idaho Governor. He immigrated to the United States in 1875 and began working in the Iowa coal mines in 1885. Moving to American Falls, Idaho, in 1903, he continued in the mining business and founded the First National Bank of American Falls. He was as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1912 and served as a member of the Idaho State Senate, (1913-15). In 1919, he was elected as a Republican the 12th Governor of Idaho, serving until 1923. As Governor, three constitutional amendments were sanctioned, funding was sanctioned for the establishment of the bureau of budget and taxation, plus a veteran's welfare program and a teacher's pension system was created. After his term, he was he was appointed as a special assistant to the Secretary of the Interior, Commissioner director of finance, (1923-32) and then returned to his Idaho banking and mining interests.
