Bergine Olava Larson was born in Lucas township, Lyon county, Minnesota southwest of Cottonwood to Engel Marie Barstad Larson and Haldor Larson. Both Bergine's parents were born near Hauge in Delane, Norway and migrated to Minnesota by way of Wisconsin, arriving in Lucas twp not long before Bergine's birth. Bergine's mother became ill and died in 1880. Her father married Engel Marie's younger sister, Dena. There was a baby sister of Bergine's born to Haldor and Dena but she died in infancy. Not long after, Haldor also became ill and died in 1882.
Bergine and her surviving siblings, Ludvig and Theodore, were cared for by their extended (and extensive) family.
Bergine was confirmed in Cottonwood at Silo (Christ Lutheran church in 1891. She married Julius Anderson at the same Cottonwood place of worship and had sons Herbert (1898) and Erwin (1900). Her son Erwin preceded her in death in 1908. She was divorced from Julius prior to 1920 when she resided in Hanley Falls, Minnesota with her son Herbert.
