Loring Melvin Larm, 90, of Poulsbo died Monday in Silverdale. He was born in Isanti County, Minn., to Melvin M. and Josephine M. (Laman) Larm. In the early 1930s, he graduated from Edison High School in Minneapolis and also attended the Minnesota School of Agriculture at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul.

On May 28, 1938, he married Marion Edith Gee in Rush City, Minn.

Mr. Larm served as an engineer and machinist in the Navy from 1935 to 1955 and the Fleet Reserve from 1955 to 1965, achieving the rank of lieutenant junior grade. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Following his naval career, Mr. Larm worked as a machinist for 13 years at the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station at Keyport. He retired in 1980.

He was a 50-year member of the International Association of Machinists; a life member of the Military Officers Association of America; and a member of Grace Community Fellowship of Port Orchard.

Survivors include his wife; a son; a daughter and her husband; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Mr. Larm was the oldest of five children. He was preceded in death by his brother, Fordyce, of Denver, and three sisters, Violette Seaberg, Arline Halverson and Leona Towne, all of Washington state.

A graveside service with full military honors will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bremerton. A reception and celebration of life follows at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel & Conference Center, 5640 Kitsap Way in Bremerton.

Memorial donations may be made to Grace Community Fellowship, P.O. Box 1997, Port Orchard, WA 98367 or to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society on the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor.
