Mr. Harold R. Pratt, 95, of Essex, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at home following a brief illness where he was comforted by his daughter in law Mary Pratt who loved and cared for him. He was the loving husband of the late Grace (Favazza) Pratt.

Harold was born May 27, 1921 in Rockport. He was the son of the late James and Geneva (Saunders) Pratt. He lived in Essex for the past 51 years and previously resided in Gloucester and Rockport.

He was a WW II United States Navy Veteran. He joined the Navy and was sent to North Africa to confront the Germans and take them out of the Middle East oil fields. He then went onto Sicily and then to the European battle. He landed at Omaha beach and the rest is history. He served from 1942-1948 and received an Honorable discharge in 1948. He was no hero, he did his job.

Harold worked as a Mechanic for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for several years until his retirement. He previously was the owner and operator of Pratt Trucking Company.

Harold enjoyed spending time with his family, driving around Cape Ann and going to the Gloucester and Essex Senior Centers. Harold was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children James J. Pratt and his wife Mary, Harold R. Pratt, Jr. and Peter M. Pratt all of Essex and Geneva Rose Pratt of Danvers. Harold was the last survivor of 13 siblings. He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was the father in law of the late Rita Babcock.

Harold's visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St. Gloucester on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 9:00-11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Spring Street Cemetery, Essex.
