He was born August 5th, 1950 in Little Rock to the late Dock Thomas and Jean Marie Elder Hilliard.
He will be missed by many, but lost a courageous battle with cancer. We know he is in a better place-in God's hands now.
John loved his family and friends; and could often be found spending time with them fishing or watching sports. He loved the horse races, football and basketball and served in the United States Army National Guard. He was a devoted husband, brother, and friend to many. He adored his two dogs, JC and CJ. JC passed away shortly after John, and will be laid to rest with him.
After graduation from North Little Rock High School in 1968, John attended UCA. In 1982 he took over the family business (Hilliard's Grocery); and in 1985 he married Cherry McVay.
John was of the Baptist faith, was a member of New Beginning Mission church; and as a believer in Jesus Christ, is now a resident of Heaven!
Cherishing his memory are his wife of 28 years, Cherry McVay Hilliard; brothers, Tom and Helen Hilliard of Morristown, Tennessee and Bob Hilliard of North Little Rock; sister, Debbie and Gary Hall of North Little Rock; and his loving miniature pincher companions, JC and CJ.
The family request that memorials may be made to the Pulaski County Humane Society.
A celebration of John's life will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday August 28th, 2012 in the chapel of Griffin Leggett-Rest Hills Funeral Home, 7724 Landers Road, North Little Rock
