Amelia Mildred Mary Pacheco Allred
May 3, 1928 - August 22, 2012
Amelia Mildred Mary Pacheco Allred, known in her homeland as "Babs" and to her friends here as "Barbara," died August 22, 2012 from causes incident to age at her daughter's home in Goodyear, Arizona.
She was born in Calcutta, British India on May 3, 1928, to Charles Stanley and Edna Mae Agacy Pacheco, the eldest of four children. She met her husband, Orvis Miles "Shorty" Allred, during his service in Calcutta as part of the Allied forces in World War II. They celebrated the end of the war during their engagement, and married in Calcutta at St. Thomas Church, on December 18, 1945. They returned to Utah in June of 1946, where they lived in the Uintah Basin, Utah County and Salt Lake City, until moving to Arizona and away from the winter (which she hated) in 2008. They raised three children: Marina, Norman and Gerald, who will greatly miss her guidance, love and fiery spirit. In all she did, be it work at a meat locker, a hospital, phone company, tending of her home, or the care she always gave her husband and children, she was driven by her fierce love of family and her Catholic faith.
She is survived by her husband Orvis; her children, Marina Littlefield (Brent), Norman (Joanne Mooney), and Gerald (Tammy); her five grandchildren, Lisa Motto, Angelia Tessmer (Terry), Jason Littlefield, Joshua Allred (Gayle), and Michael Allred; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Jean Rahman of Karachi, Pakistan and her brother Rudy of Melbourne, Australia, and their children and families. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Lionel.
Vigil service will be offered at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City on Thursday, August 30th at 7:30p.m. Friends may call upon the family one-hour prior to the Vigil service. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann Catholic Church, 450 East 2100 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84115 on Friday August 31st at 11:00a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery on 4th Avenue and "T" Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kearns-St. Ann School at the above address.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Valley in Arizona for their gentle care of Barbara during her final illness.
Arrangements entrusted to Starks Funeral Parlor. Online condolences may be shared at www.starksfuneral.com.
