In the fullness of years and after a well spent life, Frederick Adrain, a bandmaster and a musician of much ability responded to the call of his maker Wednesday night at the family home, 129 Mill Street, after a few days' illness, at the age of 81 years.

His native home was Hessendornstadt, Germany where he was born May 15, 1836. In 1854 he came to Pittston and had resided in this city ever since. Mr. Adrian was a man of imposing figure, of true German type, and was one of the best known men in the valley.

He directed several musical organizations in the city and was the leader of the old Liberty band of Pittston, which went out of existance about twenty years ago.

On coming to this country, Mr. Adrian took up mining and taught music, and he continued that occupation until about eight years ago, when he retired. He had a robust constitution and was in excellant health until a few days ago. Death was due to general debility.

The deceased was prominently identified with St. John's Lutheran Church, being one of the founders, and was ever ready to respond with his well known musical talent for the benefit of church and charitable organizations.

His wife preceded him in death about five years ago. He is survived by two sons and one daughter, as follows: Edward H., the well known musician and cigar manufacturer; William F. and Mrs. John Kern, all of Pittston, and one sister Mrs. Elizabeth Wisner, who is the grandmother of ex-Mayor John von Berger, of Scranton and who is still living at the advanced age of 91 years. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren and five great -grandchildren.

He was prominently identified with Luzerne Lodge No. 721, I.O.O.F. The funeral will be held Saturday. The hour has not been set.

I would Like to thanks Dalice For the Generous Donation to Luzerne Genweb.
