Son of Elijah and Lucy Holt, George first married Frances Adeline Dunn, the daughter of Isaac and Maria Dunn, on the 29th of June 1872 in a ceremony performed by Justus Fisher, Justice of the Peace, in Nelson. Frances died in childbirth, giving birth to their daughter, Cora, who died three days later.

George then married Josephine (AKA 'Josie" or 'Jessie') Maria Proctor Smith, daughter of Abram Proctor and Nancie ( Lowe) Proctor, on 22 July 1876 in Antrim, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire. She died in 1908. She and George had four children together.

George died of heart disease and was laid to rest in this cemetery on August 13, 1924.
