In 1930 Peter A (7 y, born in Illinois), his father Barney Auwerda (34, Holland), his mother Agnes (33, Holland) and his siblings Theresa G (11, Illinois),Nicholas C (5, Illinois) and Gertrude E Auwerda (0, Illinois) lived at the home of his father Nickalas Auwerda (72, widower) in Berwyn, just west of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. His sisters Theresa G was born on 16 September 1918 in Cicero and Gertrude Eleanor on 1 August 1929 in Oak Park in Berwyn Township. Peter Andrew himself was born on 21 March 1923, in Oak Park too.

His mother Agnes (Voordewind) Auwerda died in 1937 at the age of about 40 years and was buried in Forest Home Cemetery in Forest Park, just west of Chicago. Peter was about 14 years old then.

His father Berend alias Barney Auwerda remarried before 1942 to the six years younger Harriet G. Auwerda. In that year they were living at 1914 S. Oak Park in Berwyn [Township?], Cook County, Illinois and his father was employee of National Laundry Co. in Cicero.

Peter Andrew Auwerda, age 88, of Boulder City passed away on July 7, 2011. He was born on March 21, 1923 in Oak Park, Illinois to Berend and Agnes Voordewind Auwerda.

He served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946 as an Aviation Machinist Mate First Class. After serving his country he married the love of his life Harriet Elizabeth Lilaikis in Chicago, Illinois on October 16, 1948. Peter worked 41 years for Delta Airlines, retiring in 1987 as the West Coast General Foreman for Aircraft Maintenance.

He had a strong belief in community and served in many areas including as trustee on the board for the Boulder City Hospital Association from 2001-2008. He also served as a volunteer for the Boulder City Hospital Auxiliary for the long term care and the board of Volunteers of America at the Homestead at Boulder City. He loved to golf and was a member of the Men's Golf Association in Boulder City.

Peter is survived by his wife Harriet Auwerda of Boulder City, NV and a son Scott Auwerda of Los Angeles, CA.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 25, 2011 at 10:00 at the St Andrew's Catholic Church with burial following at 11:20 at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Boulder City Family Mortuary
