Rev. Thomas G. Morris, Sr., 79, of Pottsville, died Monday, February 17, 2003 at St. Mary's Regional Med Center in Russellville.

The son of Charles and Mary Ida Medlock Morris, he was born November 19, 1923 in Tucker, Georgia.

He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II in the 2nd Air Force, B-24 Bomb Group. Thomas and Martha Gunnin married on October 1, 1948 in Tucker, Georgia. He graduated from Oglethrope University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1954 and also received his Bachelor of Divinity from Columbia University in Decatur, Georgia.

Rev. and Mrs. Morris moved to Arkansas in 1954 and worked with the Pottsville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church for 38 years. He also served in churches in Monticello, Shady Grove and Hickory Springs, Arkansas in the late 1950's. The family returned to Pottsville and served his remaining years at both the Pottsville Associate Reformed and Russellville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Churches.

Following his retirement he served at the Russellville First Christian Church for 22 months. Brother Morris was very active in civic and community affairs including serving as a chaplain for the Arkansas State Police. He served several terms on the Pottsville City Council and was instrumental in developing the Pottsville City Park. He served on the Potts Inn Board for many years and also the Salvation Army Board.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Martha Morris, of Pottsville; a son, Thomas G. and Joan Morris, Jr. of Fort Smith; a daughter, Rebekah and Joe Roberts of Magazine; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Joslyn and Harold Wade of Fort Polk, Scarlett, Jericho, and Skyler McElroy of Magazine, Michelle, Kristern, and Thomas G. Morris, III of Fort Smith, Shannon and Cathy Roberts of Van Buren, Erika Rainwater of Magazine; one great grandson, Haden Rainwater of Magazine; two brothers, Charles and Christine Morris of Grayson, Dr. Kenneth and Betty Jean Morris of Madison; a sister, Betty and Hollie Ellis of Loganville; a sister in law, Kathleen Morris of Monroeville; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 10 am Friday, February 21, 2003 at the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Thom Walker, Rev. David Downum and Rev. Rita Richardson. Burial will be at Pisgah Cemetery at Pottsville under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
