Son of Finch Shiplet and Anna Taylor Shiplet.
He married Elizabeth Warren on October 6, 1852 in Pulaski County, KY. They had 2 children: James Thomas Shiplet (1853-1889) and Sarah Jane Shiplet (1856-?). Elizabeth died May 19, 1856 of consumption in Pulaski County, KY. In February 1857 he was a surety for the marriage of James Warren to Salvica Carroll.

Family stories say that in 1857 he went south with Harvey Taylor and Jim Cooper. It is not known what they were doing, but when they came back to Pulaski County they all bought large tracts of land. William owned 600 acres in the area known as Dyers Branch. In 1863 he was a witness for the marriage of Jim Cooper and Sarah After. Stories also say that during the Civil War William along with Cooper and Warren carried salt between the lines.

William then married Rebecca Southard in 1861. They had children: Humphrey Hampton (1863-1942); George Washington (1867-1954); Matilda (1870-1956); Francis Marion (1873-1961); Isabella (1875-1960); Cyrenious Waite (1878-1957); John Samuel (1880-1881).

William fell off his barn and was hurt. He died after gangrene set up in the wound. He was buried in Cedar Grove Church Cemetery where there are approximately 50 graves, but William is the only remaining stone.
