He received his education in the Swea City schools and graduated from Swea City High School.
On August 6, 1933, Martin was united in marriage to Fern Walker in Swea City. After their marriage, couple farmed their entire life in the Swea City area. Fern died November 16, 2005.
Martin was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. The couple enjoyed traveling to places such as going to the World's Fair, fishing trips with friends, and winters in Arizona.
Left to cherish Martin's memory are his grandchildren, Doug Dahl of Swea City; Deb Dahl; Derrick Dahl and his wife, Lisa of Austin, Minnesota; Dan Dahl of Rockwell City, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Martin, Matthew and Mitchell Dahl; Leslie Dahl; Tyler, Devon and Levi Dahl; Terra, Zayne and Raegan Dahl; sister-in-law, Lauretta Walker of Swea City.
He has been preceded in death by his wife; daughter, Mary Ann; son, Richard; great-grandchildren Chaney and Mandy; his parents; and nine brothers and sisters.
