Walter Edward Henry Bartels was born March 6, 1913 in Optima, Oklahoma to the parents of Edward Henry and Emma Wilhemenia Sopfia Klingsick Bartels. He was a resident of Optima, Oklahoma before moving to Gravite, Arkansas area. He then moved to Ottawa County in 1935. Walter was a farmer for 30 years in Ottawa County east of Miami, Oklahoma. Prior to that he had worked for the Eagle Picher Mining and Smelting Company. Walter passed away on Sunday, February 28, 1965 in the Welch Hospital, Welch, Craig County,Oklahoma. Funeral arrangements were done by the Cooper Funeral Home, Miami, Oklahoma.

Walter Bartels was buried in the G. A. R. Cemetary on block 4, row 1, grave #24 in the Slumberland addition. Walter was 51 years old. He was a member of the Nazarene Church of Miami, Oklahoma.
