Jearld Smith of Snyder died Jan. 23, 2006 at a medical center in Snyder. He was 87.
Funeral services were held Thursday at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder with the Rev. Miller Robinson officiating.
Mr. Smith was born June 15, 1918 in Izoro. He married Ione Conner on Sept. 25, 1950, in Gatesville. She preceded him in death on July 9, 1994. He was salutatorian in 1938 in Pyron. He was part of the military's 753rd tank battalion and fought in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, Germany and Austria. He earned a Purple Heart and seven Bronze Stars. He built houses and coached Farm League baseball. He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Nell Smith and Zada Ruth Darden; and a brother, Joyce Smith.
