Born in Richland County, SC, on September 10, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Tally William Motley and Lucy Irene Moore Motley.
Mrs. Byars was the Assistant State Registrar for the Department of Vital Statistics for 36 years, as well as, a member of Jackson Creek Baptist Church, Columbia, SC.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Paul Byars of Mt. Pleasant; daughters, Glenda (Michael) Johnson of Johns Island, SC, Carol (David) Brumfield of Cypress, TX, Alisa (Richard) Monsees of Brewster, NY; grandchildren, Christina Monsees, Kathryn Johnson, Courtney Monsees, and Matthew Brumfield; and nephews, William Roof of Columbia, Tommy Palmer, Ralph Palmer, Charles Palmer, all of Atlanta, GA, and Ronald Motley of Charleston, SC; niece, Susan Motley of Charleston, SC.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by three sisters and eight brothers.
A funeral service for Mrs. Byars will be held at 2 o'clock, August 30, 2012, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, Columbia, with The Rev. Fr. Dagnall Free officiating. Interment will take place on Friday, August 31, 2012, 1 o'clock at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery.
