English Nobility. The daughter of Sir Edward Hyde, 1st duke of Clarendon and Lady Frances Aylesbury. She married James, Duke of York (later King James II) on September 3, 1660. They had eight children, but only two daughters, Mary and Anne, survived to adulthood. Both would become queen. Raised in a staunchly Anglican family, Anne converted to Catholicism shortly before her death. She died of breast cancer at St. James Palace at the age of 33.
