James, called Jim, moved by wagon train from Hunt County, Texas, in 1898 and settled with Truley's parents near Carpenter, Oklahoma. Jim owned and operated a wagon yard at this location. He later farmed.
James left Oklahoma to return to Texas. After the death of his father-in-law in 1912 he returned to Oklahoma by trading his Texas land for the C. E. Dunn land near Hammon.

James Henry Alexander was born in Tennessee January 22, 1869 and
departed this life July 2, 1965.
He was united in Marriage to Truly jane Carpenter May 10, 1890(sic) and
to this union 5 Sons and 7 daughters were born. His wife, 3 sons and
1 daughter preceded him in death.
He was a long time member of the Church of Christ.
In 1893 he made the "Run" into Oklahoma and staked a claim where
Perry* Oklahoma now is. He helped build several building there. In
1899 he homesteaded North of Elk City and has made his home in
Western Oklahoma since, moving to Elk City about 25 years ago.
The survivors include 6 daughters, 2 sons, 9 grandchildren and 22
great-grandchildren. Mrs. Leta Stahl, Elk City; Mrs. Bell(sic) Ackley,
Hammon; Mrs. Lois Hester, Sayre; Mrs. Ara Foust, Colorado Springs,
Colorado; Mrs. Halcyon Hampton, Joplin, MO; Mrs. Truly Peterson, Las
Cruces, NM; Marion Alexander, Palm Springs, California; Harmon
"Shorty" Alexander, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
