This is a MEMORIAL marker as he was lost at sea after his ship was sunk during WW II and listed as MIA...his body was never recovered. He was a talented artist, and he sketched the bombing of the Naval base at Pearl Harbor. He survived the Pearl Harbor attack, but he did not survive the war.
