Merchant Seaman Luis Alberto Soto-Aguilar, born in Chile in 1896, was the son of Alfredo Soto and (?) Aguilar from Valparaiso Chile. There is confusion with this sailor because his last name should have been listed as Soto-Aguilar (his father’s last name was Soto and mother’s maiden name was Aguilar). Luis lived in New York City. He left a wife, Rita, and three children. Rita was born in Puerto Rico in 1897.
Luis married Rita Dosal-Perez (mother’s maiden name Perez) 10 May 1934 in Manhattan.
In the 1940 census 44-year-old Luis is living with wife Rita 42, daughter Maida 5, and step-children Luz Neida Velez-Dosal 15 and John Velez-Dosal 13, at 73 East 105th Street in New York City. He is a “boiler fireman” for a hospital.
