William P. Abernathy the man in the middle of the picture, (the little boy in front of him is my grandfather and my great-grandfather is on the end with my great-grandmother and great-aunt Leona) and his wife Luella Nicholson raised my great-grandfather, Cicero Egbert Lane, as their adopted son Bert Abernathy. William married Luella on December 1, 1887 in Collin County, Texas. There was one daughter born to this union about 1905 in Collin County, Texas, Mary Lou [I'm told she married someone by the last name of Ferris].
William was the son of Charles C. Abernathy and Lavina C. Reid. He was the grandson of William Payne Abernathy, his namesake. His siblings were John N., Flora E., Mary L., and O.A.
God bless the Abernathy family for raising my great-grandfather. He loved them so much he took their name as his own.
