Daniel Ward was the son of Benjamin and Selah Ward, a pioneer family who settled in Ashe County, NC near present Boone, Watauga County, NC. Daniel married Anna Curtis; they had eight children: Phebe B. Ward Shull, Thomas Ward, Samuel Ward, Kyle Ward, Rhoda Ward Bradley, William Alfred Ward, and Celia Ward France. Daniel joined his sons Samuel, William, and Kyle and daughter Celia in Lee County around 1840. His wife, Anna, being somewhat old at the time lived out her life with their daughter Phebe in Watauga County, NC. Daniel allegedly lived to be 117 years old but the records reflect that he lived to be 108 more accurately. Daniel Ward is a direct descendant of Seth Ward who arrived in the Colony of Virginia and settled at Henrico County in 1619. He is also a descendant of William Byrd, I of Charles City County, VA and of Henry Duke, Councilor of Virginia.
