REEDSVILLE MAN MEETS DEATH, BODY FOUND IN FIELD

Reuben Otto, a well known young farmer residing about two miles from Reedsville, met his death yesterday while operating a tractor in a field on his farm, Otto's dead body was found in the field on his farm.
Otto's dead body was found in the field when search was made for him when he failed to return after starting out for work. Otto was pinioned by the steering wheel of the tractor as it reared into the air while he was attempting to force the machine out of the mire into which he had driven it in attempting to drive through a ditch about thirty feet wide
and in which there was water. Otto had been at work in the field until 4:30 in the afternoon and in the early evening returned to complete some work he desired to finish. Fifty feet from the place where he attempted to drive through the ditch was a crossing which had been used in getting over and which was always used even with a team but Otto probably desired to test the tractor and attempted to get through in the soft ground. When the body was found there were two rails under the rear wheel of the tractor, showing that Otto had attempted to extricate himself after getting mired and the theory is that when the rear wheel struck the rails, the tractor reared and Otto was thrown from his seat and caught by the steering wheel. He was dead when found. The machine was a Fordson, purchased at Reedsville by Mr. Otto a short time ago. The dead man was a son of William Otto and one of the well known young farmers of that section. He is survived by his wife, a bride of less than a year and by his parents. William Otto, father of the dead man said that even with a team no attempt had ever been made to drive through the sluiceway in which the tractor had been driven. Otto had been using a disc and also had a plow hooked onto the tractor at the time of the fatal accident.
