Mrs. Pena Bartel Barrett, 77, of Kiel died early Sunday morning at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Meiselwitz Funeral Home, Kiel. The Rev. Calmer Overlein, pastor of Zion United Methodist Church, Forest Junction, will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Reedsville.

Mrs. Barrett, nee Pena Moede, was born Aug. 31, 1896, in the Town of
Rockland, daughter of the late Albert and Minnie Schley Moede. She was married to Arno Bartel Nov. 30, 1916, at Evangelical United Church, Reedsville. They located on a farm near Reedsville and moved to New Holstein in 1935 and to Kiel in 1955. Mr. Bartel preceded her in death Sept. 28, 1960.

She had been employed at the Leverenz Shoe Co. of New Holstein for 10 years. She was married to the Rev. Newton Barrett Mar. 8, 1963, at Kiel. Since February of 1973, she resided at the Calumet Homestead of New Holstein. She was a member of the Women's Guild and Frauen Verein of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Kiel.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Pearl) Heinrich, of New Holstein and Mrs. George (Virgil) Mather, of Kiel; two brothers, Arnold and Richard, of Reedsville; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Darling, of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Adolph Busse, of Manitowoc; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A daughter, Lois, preceded her in death in November of 1968. A brother and a sister also preceded her in death.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Zion Methodist Church.
