Suggested edit: William Mandel, an old and respected citizen of Brown County, passed away at his home in Sleepy Eye Thursday evening at 11 o'clock. The deceased was born in Schleswig Holstein, Germany on the 27th of November, 1817, and was therefore in his 95th year when he died. He took part in the war between Holstein and Denmark [March 1848 - May 1851] and received a saber cut in one of the engagements.
Mr. Mandel is survived by six daughters and one son. His wife and two daughters, Mrs. Henry Neumann and Mrs. Rinke preceded him in death. In spite of his old age, he was intellectually bright and enjoyed the best of health almost to the end. Some time ago, however, he became blind. The funeral was held Monday afternoon with services at the Methodist Church in Sleepy Eye.
