Mary L. Powell, age 82 of 303 Gardner Park Dr., Quincy, died Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 10:46 a.m. in Blessing Hospital.
She was born August 25, 1927 in Quincy, IL the daughter of Frank C. and Goldie Amy Scudder Barnes. On June 13, 1949 she married William Anderson Powell in Marietta, GA. He preceded her in death on June 6, 2003.
She was a former member of Columbus Road Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church and was attending Tabernacle Baptist Church. She had a strong faith in Jesus Christ and loved her family dearly and enjoyed time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, cross word puzzles and her Thursday friend time with best friend Donna Vahle.
Survivors include, 2 sons; Michael Powell and his wife Paulette of San Diego, CA, and William A. Powell III and his wife Tamie of North Pole, AK, 4 daughters; Diana Starks of Masonville, IA, Jacqueline Faulkner of Quincy, Alcinda Buirds of San Diego, CA, and Melody Garland and her husband Todd of Quincy, 7 grandchildren; Paul Powell and his wife Milee of Las Vegas, NV, Jeremy Powell and his wife Shannon of Chandler, AZ, Cody, Britta and Kylee Powell all of North Pole, AK, Samantha and Sara Garland both of Quincy, 9 great-grandchildren; 2 brother-in-laws, Robert Powell and his wife Marilyn and Milton Powell and his wife Delores all of Quincy, numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother Virgil Strange, and a son-in-law Kenneth Starks.
Services: Friday, February 12, 2010, at 1 p.m. in Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. L. D. Grant officiating. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.
Visitation: Thursday, February 11 from 4-7 p.m. at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home
Memorials: Tabernacle Baptist Church.
