Ray Vines, age 67, of Erwin, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 22, 2012. He was born in Johnson City, TN on July 13, 1945, a son of the late Raymond Niles and Mary Frances Booth Vines. He graduated from Lamar High School and attended Milligan College. On June 6, 1979, he married the former Linda Grindstaff, who survives. Mr. Vines was a member of Cherokee Baptist Church in Jonesborough and he retired in 2012 from Old South Iron Works. He was also a member of the Tennessee Army National Guard. Mr. Vines enjoyed painting, woodworking, iron work and gardening. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Billy Joe Vines.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:

Sons: Brian and Michael Keller;

Daughter: Michele Keller;

Brother: Johnny Jack Vines Sr. and his wife Linda;

Sister-in-Law: Elizabeth Vines;

7 Grandchildren.



A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 8:00 PM in the Chapel of Valley Funeral Home with Reverend James Cambron officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 PM until service time at Valley Funeral Home. A graveside committal service will be held at Cherokee Baptist Church Cemetery in Jonesborough at 11:00am Saturday, August 25, 2012. Those who will be attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50am Saturday. Active pallbearers will be Jim Padgett, Jeff Padgett, Johnny Mauk, Darrel Story, Warren "Sonny" Miller and Jim Peterson.
