OWEN RICHARD EVERHART enlisted as a Private for the Union in the Civil War on 22 December 1863. He was assigned to Company M, 6th Cavalry Regiment, Ohio and mustered out of Company M, 6th Cavalry Regiment, Ohio on 7 August 1865 at Petersburg, Virginia.

Owen married Rachael Ann Buchanan in Butler County, Pennsylvania on April 10, 1869, and from this marriage five children were born: Ethel, Chauncy, Wibert, Catherina and Floyd. Rachael died in 1895, and in 1900 Owen remarried Mary Case Harlen of Ohio. No children were born of this marriage.

Owen's occupations were a coal miner in Pennsylvania and a mail carrier in Ohio.
