From Jan. 17, 1943 - The hopes of many Barren Countians were blasted Monday when the parents of H C Biggers received a telegram from the War Dept. informing them that their son had been killed in action in Europe. It was understood that Lt. Biggers was engaged in a bombing mission at the time of his fatal accident, having only shortly before completed his course in the States and then transferred to England. Despite the telegram, friends here are still hopeful. Young men like H C are worth a million Hitlers, Mussolinis, and Tojos. (Lt. Biggers was the brother of Lois Biggers Crow and Gilbert Biggers)
