Ervin M. Areford, 81, of Cleveland, Ohio, and formerly of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 2:30 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at his home.

He was born Oct. 18, 1922, in Khedive, Greene County, Pa., a son of the late Ernest Earl and Ethel MtJoy Areford.

Mr. Areford was raised on the family farm in Cumberland Township.

He was a 1941 graduate of Cumberland Township High School and attended California University of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Areford worked as a welder for the Curtiss Wright Company, at Beaver, Pa., and the American Bridge Company, of Ambridge, Pa., before entering the U.S. Army in 1944.

He served with the Combat Engineers in Germany, where he worked to rebuild bridges on the Rhine River. He also participated in the invasion of Normandy and served in England.

In the early 1950's, Mr. Areford moved to Cleveland, where he worked as a welder for the Republic Steel Corporation, and retired in 1985 from the LTV Steel Corporation.

Ervin enjoyed hunting, fishing, football and baseball. He was an avid bowler and Pittsburgh Steelers Fan.

On July 1, 2004, he married Norma L. Bunner, who survives.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Velma Ketter.
