Suffered Fractured Hip 3 Weeks Ago
Mrs. Ella English, 86, a former well known New Philadelphia resident and widow of James W. English died last night at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Robert Reed, Jr., Wheeling. She had been ill for the past year but a fractured hip which she suffered three weeks ago when she fell, hastened her death.
Mrs. English was born in Shanesville, March 13th, 1847, the daughter of Albert and Prudence Coe Hall Bates. She was married in 1896 and thirty years resided in Kansas City, Mo., where she was a member of the Congregationalist church. Her husband died August 8, 1916.
A brother, Albert Bates, died here just a few weeks ago.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Harry Westfall, Bethlehem, N.H.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. R. M. Freshwater and Miss Alice Bates, both of this city.
Funeral services will be held at the home of Miss Alice Bates and Mrs. R. M. Freshwater, West High avenue, at 4 p.m. Sunday with Rev. J. H. Palmer officiating. Burial in the Fair street cemetery will be in charge of the Linn Hert Co.
