BEALS, NANCY—Mrs. Nancy Beals, widow of the late A. J. Beals of Geneva, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Lyle Cumberland, in Fairmont, Ne., at 6 p. m. Wednesday, July 9, 1924, aged 79 years 1 month and 27 days.

Nancy S. Mercer was born May 13, 1845 near Xenia, Greene county, O. When about ten years old she moved with her parents to Polk county, Iowa. In 1864 she was married to A. J. Beals. They moved to Fillmore county, Nebraska in 1869 and this has continued to be the family home with the exception of one season spent in Red Willow county. Mr. Beals died July 5, 1910.

Since her husband's death, Mrs. Beals has made her home wither daughter Mrs. Lyle Cumberland, all of the time in Geneva, until the Cumberland family and she moved to Fairmont about six months ago. Mrs. Beals joined the Methodist Episcopal church in childhood and remained a devoted member of that church until her death. She was a charter member of the Geneva church. Mrs. Beals occupied a large place in the affections of the pioneer families of this community. Her death resulted from strokes of paralysis.

There survive the deceased her daughters, Mrs. Mary Houchin of Omaha, Mrs. Gertrude Chambers of Blair, and Mrs. Buryl Cumberland of Fairmont, and one son Frank Beals of Moorland, Ok.; and one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ethelyn Beals of Kansas City, Mo.; one son-in-law, Arthur Atkins of Kearney, sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Two sons, harry J. and Orlie A., and one daughter, Effie E. Atkins preceded her in death.

The funeral took place from the Methodist Episcopal church in Geneva at 3 p. m. Friday, and was conducted by Rev. R. H. Thompson of Geneva, with Rev. V. C. Wright of Fairmont. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
