Arthur Howard "Art" Collins was born on January 9, 1887 in Plainfield, Bremer County, Iowa, the son of Carlos Plant Collins (1851–1925) and Susan Alma Dyer (1850–1934).
He was married for the 1st time on January 28, 1914 at Omemee, Bottineau County, North Dakota to Anna Abagail "Annie" Harrison (1891–1925). Art had filed on a homestead in Richland County, Montana, near his brother Roy and their dad Carlos in October 1908 and had been living there and improving the land, so after their marriage, the couple moved onto that homestead.
Anna died in May 1926, and within a year, Art and his 2 daughters moved to California, initially settling in Orange County, where Art was married 2nd on August 26, 1929 in the city of Orange to Mertie "Mae" Galloway (1889–1985).
About 1935 Art and Mae bought a home in El Monte, Los Angeles County, California, and that was where they spent the rest of their lives. Art was 91 years old when he passed away on May 12, 1978, and burial was in Rose Hlls Memorial Park in Whittier, Los Angeles County.
