BIO for JAMES ROGERS

James Rogers was born in Virginia, according to later census records.

He married Martha Roena (nee Mudd) Rogers on April 1, 1847 in Scotland County, Mo. The next year, they moved to Iowa and apparently lived there throughout their married life, census and other records show.

Martha Roena (nee Mudd) Rogers was the first cousin, once removed, of President Abraham Lincoln. Her mother, Elizabeth Ann Lincoln (b. 1791) was the president's first cousin and the daughter of his favorite uncle, Mordecai Lincoln.

The year after their marriage, James and Martha moved to Iowa and apparently lived there throughout their married life, census and other records show.

James and Martha had at least two children, both born in Iowa: daughter Nancy Ann (b 1849) and son Horace (b 1851).

James was buried where they had lived, in Sidney, Freemont County, Iowa. He died at age 56 years and preceded his wife in death by 39 years.

Later in life, she lived in Mound City, Holt County, Mo., where she was buried.
