"Miss Carrie B. Mumford, a woman held in high esteem, especially among the members of the First Baptist church society at Oneonta, in which church she was a most earnest and devoted worker, passed away at her home, 1 Spring street, Thursday morning of last week. shortly after 3 o'clock. She had been failing in health for some time, but not until about six weeks ago was her condition considered serious. For a week, however, she had been in a critical condition, death being attributed to pernicious anaemia. The funeral services were held from the home Sunday at 1:30 o'clock. He pastor, the Rev. Dr. Farley, officiated and burial was made in the cemetery at Milford Center. Born in the town of Milford, August 27, 1864, the daughter of the late Thomas G. and Sarah E. (Stevens) Mumford, she went to Oneonta some twenty four years ago, and has since resided there, making many warm friends. She was a deaconess of the First Baptist church and was active in the formation of the Philathea class of that church and has since been one of its most interested and devoted supporters. Although handicapped physically, resulting from an accident in her earlier years, she was an optimist of the first rank and never gave way to discouragements, but courageously surmounted them and her life and character have been an inspiration to many. Surviving her are a sister, Miss Hattie Mumford, two brothers, C. J. Mumford of South Side and G. E. Mumford of Luther street, and other less near relatives here and at Mt. Vision."
