Flora Chase Hamburg, 96, of Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009.

She was born on November 19, 1912 in Saskatchewan, Canada, to William H. and Vernetta Reese Chase. Her family moved to the Nookachamps area of Skagit County in 1919.

She met Paul Hamburg, and they were married just prior to WWII.

Flora enjoyed the outdoors a great deal and she was an avid gardener and explorer of the Pacific Northwest. She was especially fond of being by the water - any kind of water: river, creek, lake, ocean or fountain.

Throughout her life Flora was interested in her extended family and kept up with everyone's goings-on. Flora was also a longtime member of Salem Lutheran Church.

Besides her parents, Flora was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; daughter, Paula; her uncle, Archie Reese; three older brothers: Oren Chase, Claude Chase and Joe Chase; and sisters, Helen Chase, Iva Cline and Zora Hamburg.

She is survived by one brother, Cleve Chase; and several nieces and nephews: Willard Cline, Reta Simmons, Ben Chase, Neil Hamburg, Lee Hamburg, Glen Chase and Glenda Farrell.

A graveside service will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Burlington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, 2529 N. LaVenture Rd, Mount Vernon, WA 98273, or to a preferred charity.

Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home.
