Daniel McQueen married Caroline Cynthia Bostwick, of Woodhouse, on 17 May 1835; wit. Isaac Williams, Henry Williams [G. J. Ryerse marriage Register]

In Dec 1830, Daniel McQueen mustered as a private in the 2nd Regiment of the Norfolk County Militia.

In the 1834 Assessment of Woodhouse Twp., Daniel had 50 acres cultivated in the north part of Lots 10 and 11, Concession 1, Woodhouse Twp. He had 2 horses, and was the only person in his household. In 1836 Daniel was taxed 8s 8p at Woodhouse Twp

Daniel kept the North American Hotel at Port Dover in Woodhouse Twp., and advertised it in the Simcoe Standard issue of 19 Sep 1849.

In the 1850 Assessment of Woodhouse Twp., Daniel McQueen Jr. was listed with a household of 1 male over 16, 4 females under 16 and 1 female over 16. In the east half of Lot 7, Concession 1, he had 65 acres cultivated and 73 acres uncultivated, a frame house under 2 storeys, 3 horses, 4 milk cows, 2 calves and an open carriage with four wheels. In Lot 6, Concession 1, he had 40 acres cultivated and 160 acres uncultivated, and a frame house under 2 storeys. His valuation totalled £289.12sh.9

In the 1852 Census of Woodhouse Twp., he was listed as an innkeeper aged 43, with his wife Caroline C. 36, Maria 16, Ann J. 10, Cornelia 8, Caroline 8 and Elizabeth 6. There was also a long list of guests at the inn.10

In the business directory part of the 1856 Tremaine map, D. and Hugh A. McQueen were listed as hotel keepers at Port Dover.11
