He inherited "Teddington" from his father and developed a renown stable of race horses. He served in the Virginia House of Delegates for James City County from 1799-1800 & 1805-1806. According to the College of Wm. & Mary records, he married first Anne (?) and they had the following children: William Howell who died 1810 & married Sarah S Steward, Francis, Philip John, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Bolling Blakey & Mrs. Anne Cocke Lewis. He married secondly Mrs. Anne nee' Clopton/1-Ellyston/2-Lightfoot/3-Colgin. They had the following children: Robert Armistead and Sarah.
