Pittsford - The funeral of John B. Hagan, who died at his home here Sunday evening, was held at his late home at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. A.H. Nash, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated. The bearers were William Walker, John Fitzgerald, and Freeman Baird of Chittenden and Joseph Dupaw, Mr. Sterling and Mr. Smith of this place, all veterans of the Civil war. The burial was in Evergreen cemetery. Mr. Hagan, who died at the age of 77 years, had been ill for only a few days. He was a veteran of the Civil war. He enlisted from Bristol August 27, 1861, as a private in company B, fifth Vermont volunteers, and left for three years' service. He took part in the following battles: Lee's Mills, Va., April 16, 1862; Williamsburg, Va., May 5, 1862; Solding Farm, Va., June 26, 1862, and Savage Station, June 29, 1862, where he was wounded in the foot. He was discharged July 15, 1863, by reason of disability and re-enlisted December 14, 1863, in the same company. He was seriously wounded at the battle of the Wilderness on May 5, 1864, and transferred to the volunteer reserve corps, being honorably discharged February 24, 1865, by reason of disability. Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Arthur of New Haven, Charles of Morrisville, and John Hagan of this place, also by five daughters, Mrs. Sarah Hagan [as written] of Vergennes, Mrs. Samuel Capron of Brandon, Mrs. William Danforth of Lincoln, Mrs. George Gardner of Pittsford and Mrs. Peter McLean of Huntington, Mass. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
