Alice Lillian Loomis, 84, of Eau Claire, passed away peacefully at her son’s home in Oconto, Wis., on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2005.

She was born Aug. 20, 1920, in the township of Albion, Trempealeau County, Wis., to Edward and Annette (Everson) Sterry. She attended Plainview elementary school in the Eleva-Strum area and graduated from Eleva High School in 1939. Alice graduated from Eau Claire State Teachers College with a two-year rural diploma and taught in the same school (Plainview) she attended as a child. She married Floyd Dallas Loomis who preceded her in death in 1956. They resided in Eau Claire where they raised three sons, Jerome, Michael and Steven. Over the years, Alice developed a love of gardening, golf and teaching her elementary school students. She also enjoyed her bridge club, church activities at Trinity Lutheran Church, and later in life, extensive travel. Alice was active in professional and social organizations and continued her education at UW-Eau Claire where she earned a bachelor’s degree and later a master’s degree in education. She retired from the Eau Claire School System after more than 25 years experience as an elementary school teacher. She was a volunteer at the Chippewa Valley Museum where she gave tours of the model rural elementary school.

Alice is survived by her children, Jerome (Joan) of St. Germain, Wis., Michael (MaryLynn) of Oconto, Wis., and Steven Loomis of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren, Jeffrey (Mindy McKinnon) of Shoreline, Wash., and Jennifer Loomis of Milwaukee, Wis.; one brother, Albin (Marjorie) Sterry of Eleva; sisters Florence Olson of Stillwater, Minn., Doris Sterry of Minneapolis, Minn., Gladys Tyacke of Milwaukee, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two step-brothers, Howard and Jessie Lardahl; a brother, Palmer Sterry; sisters, Edna Solfest and Irma Geiger.

Funeral services for Alice will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Eau Claire, with the Rev. Andrew Hinwood officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fuller-Speckien Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, and one hour prior to the time of service at the church. Fuller-Speckien Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Family and friends are invited to sign the guest book online at www.fullerspeckien.com.
