DEATH SUMMONS SEABRIGHT MAN

Following an illness of two months, death yesterday morning summoned John C. Gripenstraw, 68 years of age, a highly respected resident of Seabright and formerly of Boony Doon.
Born in Decatur, Ill., Sept. 9 1860, he moved to California in 1876. Many old-time residents of Santa Cruz will remember Mr. Gripenstraw, as for years he was driver of the horse cars on Pacific avenue and later was connected with the Pacific Ocean House. In 1917 he located in Bonny Doon, where he resided for nine years, then coming to Seabright, where he made his home with his sister, Mrs. Conrad Scholl, for the past two years.
John C. Gripenstraw was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gripenstraw of San Jose. Surviving him are a daughter, Miss Janet Gripenstraw and two sisters, Mrs. John McIntosh and Mrs. Con Scholl of Seabright; a brother, Henry Gripenstraw of Richmond; his stepmother, Mrs. Rosina Gripenstraw, and sisters, Mrs. Esther Jacoby, Mrs. Dorothy Handly, and brothers, Fred, Louis, Wesly, all of San Jose, and Mrs. Elizabeth King of Seabright.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Wessendorf mortuary.
