Fred worked at the Ovaltine Company in Villa Park for 31 years. He also served as a volunteer fireman beginning in 1948. He was a drummer in the Concordia Church Band and played for many Church picnics.

He met Mary on a blind date and they were blessed with two daughters, Mary and Caroline. They were also blessed with three grandchildren Roy, Larry, and Debbie. They built the house they lived in during their married life.
