Mr. Charles Franklin Scott, 72, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2007, at Springwood Care after a lengthy and courageous battle with COPD, with his loving wife and family at his side. He was born Sept. 12, 1934, in Surry County to Rassie Franklin and Sadie Warden Scott. Charles was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was of the Baptist faith. Charles retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 24 years of service. Preceding him in death were his parents; and a sister, Ruby Rogers. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Helen Landreth Scott of the home; a daughter, Gail (Ricky) Bennett of Walkertown; three stepdaughters, Brenda Nobles of Winston-Salem, Diane (Mike) Lindley of Walkertown and Vickie (Michael) Byrd of Clemmons; two sisters Ella Mae Vanhoy of Winston-Salem and Marie (Dixie) Pinnix of Winston-Salem; a brother, Conrad (Joyce) Scott of Walkertown; a brother-in-law, Ray Rogers; three granddaughters, Misty (Robby) Ward, Leiah (Will) Cumbo and Lori Lindley; three great-grandsons, Landon, Grayson and Weston Ward; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, July 4, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Currie and the Rev. Jim Thompson officiating. A committal service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will accept flowers, or memorials may be made to The American Lung Association, 3409D W.
