Funeral will be held in Killeen today for LON A. BROOKS of Austin, former Abilene attorney who died unexpectedly from a heart attack Tuesday morning in Belton where he had gone on business. Mr. Brooks, 63, suffered from angina pectoris for several years. A native of Alabama, Mr. Brooks moved to Texas at the age of four years with his father, EVANT BROOKS, pioneer of Evant, Coryell County. He resided in Coryell until 1897, the year he was admitted to practice law, then moved to Killeen, Bell County, from there to Belton, where he practiced law until 1907. From then until 1914, Mr. Brooks was a practicing attorney in Anson, and during the first administration of JAMES E. FERGUSON as governor, was appointed as secretary of state, held for two years. From Austin, he went to Lubbock and then returned to Anson in 1924, then to Abilene. In 1930 he went to Austin to practice law.

Surviving are Mrs. BROOKS, the former Miss FANNIE FERGUS, and three children, CLYDE BROOKS, a son, of Abilene, and two daughters, Mrs. KATHLEEN BADGER of Austin and Mrs. MARY EVELYN REES, wife of Lieut. CLIFFORD REES of the U. S. Army stationed at Honolulu, Hawaii. Two brothers, W. C. BROOKS of Evant and JINKS BROOKS of Albuquerque, New Mexico, also survive. LON A. BROOKS was a nephew of E.T. BROOKS of Abilene and Mr. LON A. BROOKS is a sister of Mrs. E. T. BROOKS. Mr. and Mrs. E. T. BROOKS, Mr. and Mrs. MERYL BROOKS, AUBREY and MAURICE BROOKS, Miss FRANCES BROOKS, Mr. W. W. HAIR, Mr. and Mrs. ROY L. DUKE and JAMES P. STINSON were to go from Abilene to the funeral.
