Stephen W. Abbott was a 24 year-old cordwainer residing in Beverly, Essex Co., Mass. when he enlisted August 2, 1862 as a Private. On August 5, 1862, he mustered into "G" Co., Mass. 23rd Infantry. He died of disease on July 18, 1864 at Broadway Landing, VA. (at base hospital)
His widow, Elizabeth P. Abbott, applied for a pension on September 15, 1864, Pension Application #65, 006.
