Shirley was born Jan. 11, 1932 in Foxburg. She was the daughter of Percy and Esther Byers Page.
She was a 1950 graduate of St. Petersburg-Richland High School and a founding member of Chapel on the Hill Assembly of God in Emlenton. Shirley joyfully served the Lord and witnessed about Christ to everyone she met. She was a homemaker and cared deeply for her family and friends.
She was married in Emlenton on March 13, 1953, to Charles E. Gates, and he preceded her in death April 17, 1987.
She is survived by three daughters, Bonnie Legvold and her husband, the Rev. Charles, of Aurora, Ill., Mary Beth Fair and her husband, Thomas, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Brenda Sloan and her husband, Ronald, of Neversink, N.Y.
Also surviving are five grandchildren: Lydia Crist (attending Palmer College of Chiropractic) and her husband, Jason, of Port Orange, Fla., Melinda Legvold of Aurora, Ill. (a student at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla.), Alison Legvold of Aurora, Ill., Kassandra Fair of Sierra Vista, Ariz. (a student at Cochise Community College) and Thomas Fair of Sierra Vista, Ariz. (attending Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill.).
Also surviving are two brothers, Percy Page Jr. of Glenn Dale, Md. ,and Gary Page of Las Animas, Colo.; a sister, Katherine Zilafro of Franklin, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, including Betty Patterson, her best friend and caregiver in her final months.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Barry Charles Gates; and a brother, Thomas Byers Page.
Interment will follow in Foxburg Cemetery.
