HEADLAND. . .Angels rejoiced as Sallie V Lingo Smith joined them Sunday, August 19, 2012. Born May 22, 1920, she was 92.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 22, 2012, in the Holman Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Cecil M. Sanders, Jr. and Reverend Norman C. Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the mortuary.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 104 Rock Bridge Road, Dothan, AL. 36303.

A lifelong resident of the Newville and Headland area, Sallie worked at Wex-Tex for twenty-five years. After leaving Wex-Tex, she fulfilled a dream by returning to school and becoming a nurses aide. Sallie was a sitter and caregiver to many. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Sallie loved God, family and friends, touching all with her kindness and gentleness. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Headland.

Sallie was preceded in death by her father, Elijah Wesley Lingo, her mother, Lillie Pastoria Holland Lingo, her loving husband, W.C. (Shooter) Smith, grandson, William Smith, granddaughter, Joy Smith, sisters, Ovie C. Ryals, Ollie B. Maddox, Miree Skipper, brothers, John T. Lingo, Tollie D. Lingo and James E. Lingo and a special friend, Hilda Skinner.

Surviving relatives include two sons, Larry Smith and wife, Judy, Dothan; Dwayne Smith and wife, Linda, Valdosta, GA; daughters, Jolaine Irish and husband, Dana, Ozark; Sue Hinson and husband, Stanley, Headland; her beloved grandchildren, Chad Smith and wife, Jessica, Brad Smith and wife, Jennifer, Laura Watson and husband, Brian, Jamie Hayes and wife, Gina, Kevin Irish and wife, Rie, Andy Irish, Amber Smith, Candice Lawrence and husband, Jack, Jennifer Lawrence and husband, Eric, and Jim Hinson; nineteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Smith and Ruby Morris, two brothers, Joe Lingo and Tom Lingo; special nieces, Janice Marcum, Diane Sewell, Lillie Long, Teresa Cochran, Linda Whatley and many other nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to Joan Driggers for the all the special things over the years.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Chad Smith, Brad Smith, Jim Hinson, Kevin Irish, Andy Irish, John Wesley Cochran, Jason Cochran, Ryan White and Steve Lingo.
