NEEVES, LAURA-- Mark M. Neeves of Ranchester, Wyo., passed through Fairmont yesterday with the body of his wife, who died in Wyoming, and was being taken to Geneva for burial.

A daughter, Mrs. V. C. Shickley, lives in Ranchester. Mr. Neeves was in the newspaper business in Fairmont and Geneva in the pioneer days. (17 April 1911).

ALSO: The Late Mrs. M. M. Neeves -- While not totally unprepared, this community was greatly shocked late yesterday afternoon when word of the death of Mrs. Mark M. Neeves was received by the neighbors and friends who had hoped against hope that a turn for the better would occur and the estimable lady be spared to her family and large circle of intimate friends.

Mrs. Neeves has been a sufferer for a number of years from heart trouble, and for the past four years has been more or less bedfast. During these trying years, she has had the faithful attendance of a devoted husband and family, and of kind neighbors and friends.

The Neeves family have been residents of Dayton since 1893, and the death of the wife and mother has cast a gloom over the entire country side.

Laura Elizabeth House was born in new York City, April 24, 1843. During her childhood, her parents removed to Dixon, Ill., where they remained a number of years.. Later the family removed to Rochester, Minn., where on November 1, 1860, she was married to Mark M. Neeves. Five years later the young people settled on a homestead near Milford, Neb.

In October, 1875, Mr. Neeves established a newspaper in Fairmont. In the spring of 1876, by earnest solicitation of the enterprising citizens of the county seat, he moved his printing office to Geneva, and the first issue of the Geneva Review came out on the 30th day of April of that year.

Here they established their home and reared their family, consisting of three children, Mrs. Maude Shickley of Ranchester, A. C. Neeves of this place and M. B. Neeves, who died and was buried at Geneva.

In 1893, the family came to Dayton, which has been their home ever since.

Early in girlhood, Mrs. Neeves was confirmed in the Episcopal faith, and throughout the years of her life has been a consistent Christian woman. The neighbors and friends all attest to her kindness of heart, her charity and her many good qualities.

A brief service will be held at the residence tomorrow morning, at 9 o’clock, conducted by the Rev. George Dalzell of the Congregational church, after which the remains will be conveyed to Ranchester and thence to Geneva, Neb., where the interment will occur by the side of the son, who lies buried in the Geneva cemetery.

Aside from the surviving relatives mentioned above, and the husband, Mark M. Neeves, the deceased leaves a sister, Mrs. Susan Bamber of Rochester, Minn., and two nephews, J. M. Bear of Pasadena, Cal., and F. H. Bear of Cleveland, O., and a niece, Mrs. Alice Sheridan of Pendleton, Ore.
