Born in Corris, Wales Rev EJ Hughes began preaching in the First Welsh Presbyterian Church of Cincinnati, Ohio in 1851, then was assigned first pastor of the Calvanistic Methodist Church in West Bangor, PA, was then the pastor at Welsh Presbyterian Church in Delta, PA and moved to the Welsh Calvinistic Methodist at St Clair 1858, was first pastor of the Welsh Presbyterian Church in Wilkes Barre (1865-71), then returned to Peach Bottom to preach until his death.
