Mrs. Mary A.( McClung ) Armstrong was born in Republic, Ohio, July 29, 1852, and departed this life at her home in Lawrence, Kansas, April 22, 1928, at the age of 75 years, 8 months, and 23 days. She was educated in the schools of Seneca Co. Ohio. ( She attended Seneca County Accedemy and taught in some of the school in her Dist. On February 6, 1873, she was united in marriage with Beatty Armstrong at Clyde, Ohio. to this union four children were born: Mrs. Ethlyn Banks, Harley Armstrong, Mrs. Edith Miller and A. I. Armstrong, all of whom were at her bedside durning her last illness. In 1878, Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong came to Kansas, locating on a farm near Kanwaka twp, where they made their home for thirty years, sharing together the hardships of frontier life and helping to found a civilization that would enable those who came after to live better and with greater ease. She was converted and united with the United Brethren church at Kanwaka in 1894 and from that time has been a devoted and consistent member, always doing her utmost to honor her Christ and His church. In 1908 she and her husband came to Lawrence, where she since resided and where a little more than 6 years ago her companion departed this life.
Mrs. Armstrong has for some time been a constant suffer, and for months has been confined to her chair, being unable to lie down, but thru all her afflictions she was ever cheerful and hopeful, uncomplaining, considerate, tender, loving, kind. Her beautiful Christian spirt, exemplary life and congenial manner won for her a circle of friends limited only by the scope of her acquaintance. Besides the immediate family, she leaves to mourn their loss one brother, J. J. McClung of Garden Grove, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Lizzie Watts of Lecompton, Kansas, twelve grandchildren, and eleven greatgrandchildren. A host of friends and neighbors share with the bereaved family the sorrow of their loss and enter into heartiest sympathy with them.

Additional information: The Armstrong family moved to Senca late 1860's from Jefferson Co. Ohio. Robert and Ann's both born in Jefferson Co. Ann's maiden name Ekey. They had 7 children, two sons where married in Seneca Co. John G. Armstrong to Ceila M. Leonard, father John Leonard of Seneca Co. Dec. 24, 1873. Beatty Armstrong married Mary A. McClung father John McClung of Senca. Feb.6,1873. Two daughter remain single. All are buried Farewell Retreat, Scipio twp. John G. moved to Bowling Green, Wood Co. and Beatty moved to Kansas 1878
